Angela Frances Policastro was born on August 30, 1989. At birth, she suffered severe brain damage. Faced with the unbearable grief and pain the Policastros realized that her complex medical care would be too much for them to handle at home. It did not take long to discover that there were no hospitals, nursing facilities, or any type of specialized homes on Long Island that could care for children with special health care needs.

The Policastros committed the next ten years advocating to have a home built for children like their daughter. With the help of NYS Assemblyman Harvey Weisenberg, Independent Group Home Living, IGHL, and the NYS Office for People With Developmental Disabilities, OPWDD, their dream became a reality. On June 30, 2000, this home was dedicated to Angela.
